Hotel Vucko in Jahorina.

Jahorina was the centre of the Winter Olympics in 1984. Standing on a world stage Hotel Vucko could boast amongst it’s first guests, King Gustav of Sweden, and Juan Antonio Samaran (the president of the International Olympic committee). Sadly the hotel was virtually destroyed during the dreadful war of the 1990’s and in 2003 the dream of restoring “The Vucko” back to it’s former splendor came into life. As a ski resort, energy is a priority. It gets very cold at 1500mts in the middle of winter. (Could be why it is an excellent ski resort). The hotel was designed to be highly insulated and efficient and first opened in 2006/7. Imagine the disappointment of the owners when their heating costs were very high. The MACH^® team were asked to help as our energy management system had an excellent reputation. The MACH^® system went live in a matter of weeks into phase 1 (2007) of the Vucko and to everyone’s astonishment (well, we knew it would be a very good result, but MACH^® even out performed our calculations) saved 70% of the hotels heating oil consumption, yes that’s not a typo, it was, and still is, 70%!

This was not due to the hotels inefficient insulation, but sadly to guests who would leave windows open (for the fresh air) whilst the heating was on. MACH^® won it’s accolades in the first weeks as our automatic energy control system switched off the heating in a room should a careless guest open a window. MACH^® tells the guest (in their own language), and they can chose to leave the window open, or close it, to re-activate the room heating. The snow does not melt so fast in Jahorina any more as we are no longer heating up the mountains as well as the hotel !

The best compliment we could have? - MACH^® was the immediate choice for Phase 2 of the expansion of this beautiful resort for 2009 taking it to 176 rooms and we are already designing phase 3 for 2010/11 which will see a total of 250 rooms controlled by MACH^®, numerous access control points to the complex, underground parking controlled by MACH^® and our latest installation for the 2009 season is the automatic access and heating control of the ski lockers, all controlled by the guests' MACH^® room key cards. MACH^® is proud to be part of the efficient rejuvenation of a hotel bearing the Olympic ‘logo’ and literally, fit for a King.
